As well as a being great place to relax, Casa Colina is an ideal base for exploring the local area. You will need a car, and there are numerous places of interest within easy reach, whether you are looking for beaches, historic sites, pretty whitewashed villages or major towns and cities.
Torre del Mar (30 mins) - a lively Spanish seaside town, with a long, pretty promenade running along the length of the beach. There is an endless choice of cafes, bars and restaurants offering every kind of international cuisine. Reknowned for its many seafront fish restaurants. Beach facilities are good, with ample parking, showers and toilets.
Nerja (45 mins) - a popular tourist resort with an attractive old town centre, and its famous Balcon De Europa viewing point. There are a number of good beaches with full facilities, and plenty of good places to eat. The seafront fish restaurants are well known for their giant paellas which are cooked on the beach.
El Morche (40 mins) - a small resort with a lovely wide, sandy beach on the way to Nerja. Plenty of sunbeds for hire, showers and toilets. Good parking, and a few beachfront cafes and restaurants.
Rincon de la Victoria (40 mins) - an upmarket Spanish seaside resort, where the wealthy Malagese tend to own holiday homes. A good long sandy beach with good facilities and some amusements for children. The long promenade is a great place to spend an evening, sitting in one of the numerous bars and restaurants along the seafront.
Benajarafe (35 mins) - if you prefer your beach unspoilt and natural, this is just one of many along the coastline west of Torre del Mar.
Velez Malaga (30 mins) - the oldest capital in the Axarquia region, and an interesting historic town. It features a castle, lots of winding streets and a good selection of shops, bars and cafes.
Malaga (40 mins) - A really fascinating city, with so much to see and do. The easiest way to get there is by bus, and there is a daily service from either Riogordo or Torre del Mar (for only a couple of euros). Some of the highlights of the city are the spectacular cathedral, the world famous Picasso Museum, and the awe-inspiring Gibralfaro Castle with breathtaking views as far as North Africa on a clear day. Also, don't miss the Alcazaba, an ancient Moorish fortification which some say is as impressive as the Alhambra in Granada, but without the queues! As a cultural centre, there are many museums, galleries and theatres. Malaga is also a great place for shopping, and offers an endless selection of places to eat and drink.
Antequera (40 mins) - a less well known tourist destination, but this is a fascinating
town dating back to Roman times. The town centre features lots of interesting Baroque
architecture and pretty windind streets and alleyways. A very Spanish feeling town,
with good shopping and plenty of good tapas bars, all very reasonably priced.
Riogordo (10 mins) - the closest town to Casa Colina, Riogordo is charming and pretty. There are plenty of small food shops, banks, a chemist, and a handful of very Spanish bars.
Comares (20 mins) - a spectacular little town, clinging to the rocky mountaintop, can be seen from miles around and is reputed to have been the last Moorish stronghold in Spain. As well as the amazing panoramic views in every direction, the narrow winding streets are fascinating to explore, as are the ruined fortess and the cementary, perched in a truly dramatic location.
Granada (75 mins) - this well known historic city is within easy reach, and well worth a visit. It is famously the home of tapas, and most bars offer a free tapa with every drink you buy. The city is full of historic architecture, narrow streets and shady plazas - a great place to explore. Granada's most famous attraction is the ancient Alhambra Palace, with stunning gardens and views over the city. Entrance tickets to the Alhambra should be pre-booked, as they are often sold out weeks in advance, especially during the high season.

Selwo Aventura - nature park, Estepona (90 mins), open from February to October
Caves at Nerja - (45 mins), huge natural archaeological caves, featuring ancient Palaeolithic and post-Palaeolithic remains and artefacts
Treasure Cave at Rincon de la Victoria - (45 mins), the only visitable marine cave in Europe
Lobo Park - wolf sanctuary, near Antequera (40 mins)
